Here is where you’ll find key information about Iracambi. Check out regional maps, scientific research and publications produced by students and scientists, videos about the Research Center and the local community, and data from our fauna and flora monitoring.

Maps

This interactive map shows the entire area of Iracambi Farm and the different land uses that make up our landscape: fragments of primary old-growth forest, regenerating secondary forests, areas reforested with native species, eucalyptus plantations and pasture. Explore this map to understand the diversity of ecosystems available for study, as well as the mountainous terrain, watercourses and our proximity to Serra do Brigadeiro State Park. This diversity makes Iracambi a unique place to conduct research on conservation, restoration and sustainable development. The map was developed with the support of the University of Bologna.

Learn about a typical day in the “Smart Forests” program by clicking on the image beside it. The project monitors forest health through camera traps - placed at strategic points to observe and record Atlantic Forest wildlife. “Smart Forests” is part of a comprehensive forest ecosystem assessment that also includes data on vegetation, soils, water, climate and soundscapes. This work allows us to quantify and monitor changes, as well as to develop scientifically validated, data-driven reference conditions for forest restoration.

This video was made by Russell Nylen as part of his master’s degree in Anthropology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. It portrays the reality of communities in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais where Iracambi is located, as well as the conflicts related to mining activities in the area.
